PPP healthcare has launched a telephone-based information and guidance service, Pay As You Go Healthcare, providing details of private hospital facilities and specialists to help customers choose and access private care.
The service's customer advisers have access to specialist guides from Dr Foster, the UK provider of information on healthcare services and standards, and follow-up enquiries with written details of suitable hospitals and specialists.
Commenting on the new service, Nye Jones, distribution development manager at PPP healthcare, said: 'We have recognised there is a market in the UK for self-pay. It has always existed, but it is growing at a healthy rate.'
He continued: 'We have linked up with 64 hospitals in the UK and act as a conduit service to find the right hospital at the right price and the right specialist for the customer to have self-pay private service.'
The client does not pay and the service is available to all members of the public, as well as current and future PPP healthcare policyholders.
Jones said: 'We do not charge a fee, but receive remuneration from the hospital involved. We then work with the GP and arrange hospital appointments ' it is a form of account management for the whole process. This is an integral part of our strategy of developing products and services outside core PMI.'
The move is part of an overall change in business strategy for PPP. Jones added: 'PPP healthcare is changing after a strategic review of the business. We intend to transform our business into new markets. Health and health information is high on the consumer's agenda so it is important com-panies can move in line with that.'
