The numbers of self-employed people should be a wake-up call for insurers says Jonathon Long.

The number of self-employed people in the UK continues to rise to new heights. The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed that there are now 4.8million self-employed people in the UK, accounting for 15% of the workforce[1]. Whilst it is good news that more people are finding work through self-employment, it's important to remember that this is a growing part of the workforce which does not have access to the group protection policies offered by many of the UK's larger employers.
