Norwich Union Healthcare (NUH) has teamed up with helpline company InfoGenie to give PMI customers 24-hour access to advice from a 20-strong team of GPs.
The new helpline will be available to both individual and corporate customers and aims to help businesses cut down on unnecessary sickness absence and provide peace of mind for policyholders.
According to NUH, the service has the capacity to deal with 80,000 calls a year from its 555,000 PMI customers. All callers have the choice of speaking to a GP about an illness or to a nurse who can provide general health information.
GPs working on the helpline are fully qualified and trained to ask callers specific questions in order to assess whether treatment is needed and if the case is an emergency.
Britta Schassan, founder of InfoGenie UK, said: "This is radically different it adds an exciting new dimension to the high quality service provided by NUH."
