Cancer remains biggest cause of claim

The average payout under critical illness claims is £70,024, according to new figures from Scottish Provident. Cancer makes up the largest group of claims, but with a large difference between the sexes. While cancer comprises 49% of male claims, it accounts for 83% of claims in women, due to the prevalence of heart attacks among men, currently at 24% of all claims.
