GP report payments will be fixed at £54 from 1 July, increasing to £60 on 1 April 2003.
The agreement which was reached between the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the British Medical Association (BMA) will also see the fees tied to remuneration levels recommended by the Doctors and Dentists Review Body as of next year.
Richard Walsh, head of health for the ABI, said: 'This agreement removes the threat of doctors and insurers spending valuable time on individual negotiations. It means they will be free to concentrate on providing services for their patients. We believe this new agreement can last well into the future, offering both doctors and insurers some much-needed stability.'
The report payments, required by insurers from doctors for insurance claims, were initially set at £31, but following a breakdown in the agreement doctors were previously setting their own fees.
