Low awareness of benefit entitlements and lack of planning is leaving people open to financial crisis if they lost their job, according to research from the Post Office.
Nearly half of the working population (48%) are concerned about losing their job, on average people said they need nearly £300 a week if unemployed.
However, 40% have nothing or less than one month's salary saved, and 71% have no unemployment cover as a back-up, even though it would cost just £1.80 a day to cover outgoings of £300 a week.
Over 75% of people are unaware of what they would be entitled to claim in unemployment benefits yet a third would rely on state benefits.
