Norwich Union paid out on 90% of claims it received on its critical illness (CI) policies last year, according to released figures. The number of claims declined due to non-disclosure fell by half down to 2%, while those turned down for not meeting the definition made up the other 8%. Cancer, at 63% of the total, was the most common cause for a claim on a policy. Michael Whyte, chief underwriter for the provider, said that Norwich Union had worked hard to tackle the issue of non-disclosure and this was demonstrated by the reduction in the number of claims declined for this reason.
