Bupa Individual Protection has revealed that it experienced a 25% increase in new protection business premiums in 2007.

According to the insurer, the massive growth relates to its full range of individual protection products, which includes critical illness (CI) cover, income protection and life assurance.

Commenting on the growth in business, Steve Payne, director of Bupa Individual Protection, said: "We are delighted with a 25% increase, particularly given the current flat market."

"I would like to thank our intermediary partners for their support - we will be working to improve further this year," he added.

In May last year, the provider announced that it would be offering premium reductions of up to 25% on its CI cover for policyholders with cancer or multiple sclerosis exclusions.
