Universal Provident has brought the underwriting of its product range in house with sister company Personal Assurance now the insurer.
The previous underwriter was Great Lakes, part of Munich Re, which will still be involved as reinsurer. Existing business will move across to Personal Assurance as it renews.
The products affected are the Choices PMI range - and the other PMI plans still available for existing customers - DentalCare, LivingCare (long-term disability) and IncomeCare (income protection).
Universal Provident's MPPI and travel policies will still be underwritten by their current (external) underwriters.
Dale Tranter, assistant underwriter at Universal Provident, said: "Our ability to take this on demonstrates the growing financial strength of the group. Doing our own underwriting gives us more flexibility, as well as more credibility as a provider with the intermediary market.
"Personal Assurance already insures its own range of health-related plans, so we have plenty of relevant experience and expertise."
Universal Provident is part of Personal Group Holdings plc is a provider of employee benefits and financial services.
These include insurance products; lifestyle benefits such as holiday and retail discounts; flexible benefit programmes; and a range of tax efficient benefits such as childcare vouchers; and employee assistance programmes.
