MRI, CT and PET scans have been added to a healthcare cash plan offered by Westfield Health Scheme. The scanning techniques, used to diagnose and treat serious illnesses such as heart disease and cancer, are being added to the provider's Foresight Plan, which is aimed at the corporate market, at no extra cost.
Available through intermediaries, the plan offers three levels of cover, costing £1, £2 or £3 per employee per week. It provides total reimbursement on all benefits and like other cash plans, provides cover for pre-existing conditions. Commenting on the enhanced cover, Jill Davies, executive director of Westfield, said: "By providing this top range benefit as part of such a low-cost plan, Westfield are helping to break the mould in the health insurance sector."
The plan also includes a full employee assistance programme, which gives access to 24-hour counselling and face-to-face counselling sessions. Davies said these particular benefits could help cut the risk of lawsuits for companies, in light of new laws.
The Court of Appeal has ruled that employers that offer a confidential counselling service with access to treatment are unlikely to be found in breach of duty of care in stress-related cases. "Foresight represents a very relevant opportunity for companies seeking to reduce their risk of litigation," said Davies.
