QI would like to know more about GISC membership so we can register to sell private medical insurance.QFrom 1 September, only insurers and intermediaries who are members of GISC, or who have submitted an application to become a member, will be able to deal in general insurance products. I would suggest that you consider applying sooner rather than later to ensure you meet this deadline. From 31 December, 2001, insurer members will only be permitted to deal with those intermediaries who have been accepted into membership.
The cost to all members is 0.1% of revenue for general insurance during the previous financial year, with a minimum fee of £200 being payable.
It is worth viewing the GISC website www.gisc.co.uk which provides much fuller details on the new regime, some of the changes intermediaries will need to make to meet the new requirements, and how to prepare for implementing these changes. You can also apply for membership online if you wish.
