Pru's latest offering lacks long-term sustainability, according to one industry commentator.

Doubt has been cast over the future existence of PruProtect's health offering, which rewards consumers with Vitality points for leading a healthy lifestyle.

Jonathan Earnshaw, sales director at Expacare, said advisers were still in the honeymoon period when it came to this product but urged them to think about the long-term consequences of recommending the product and suggested PruProtect would need to make enough money from its underwriting to cover the marketing cost.

He added: "There needs to be long-term momentum as the gym bonuses are just a marketing ploy." In addition, he said that while the bronze level was achievable, it became increasingly difficult as people progressed upwards, with the platinum level being virtually impossible to attain.
