In the first of a case study-led series around the claims and underwriting journey, COVER senior reporter, Jaskeet Briah, speaks to Drewberry’s independent health and protection expert, Alex Weir, about a case he had to relentlessly push through to secure cover for his client with pre-existing health issues.

In December 2022, one of Weir's first clients was seeking relevant life insurance to protect his wife and child, hoping to leave a legacy as he had several health concerns including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and arthritis. "Finding the cover itself was that much more difficult, because it [the health concerns] weren't just a bad back, we had to do quite an extensive search," Weir says.
