I've written many an article in my time about the protection market, but had never imagined myself writing about my experience at the sharp end. Not just as a consumer, but a critical illness claimant. However the Gods decreed that they would give me the opportunity when two days before my 54th birthday, I suffered a stroke. It was a bolt out of the blue. No risk factors, no warning signs. I'd just returned from skiing in France with our eldest daughter, and a few hours earlier I'd had dinner...
