This month's issue of COVER includes a free Think Tank supplement focussing on the future role of the intermediary in the healthcare and protection insurance market. The debate, which was sponsored by BUPA, discussed the implications that forthcoming changes in the protection market will have on advisers working in the sector.
Guests at the roundtable discussed the ways in which advisers will have to adapt in order to stay ahead of the game once Financial Services Authority regulation comes into effect early next year. Most were in agreement that the trend towards greater consolidation between intermediary firms is likely to continue, but admitted that forging partnerships had its challenges.
Questions were also raised about the future of commission levels and fee-based advice in the market. However, it was agreed that moving towards a fee-based approach to advice would be something of a cultural battle.
