Skandia Life has published a booklet setting out what form the claim process will take, stage by stage, in an effort to make the process more understandable and less daunting for IFAs and their clients.
The initiative aims to try and remove the public perception that when it comes to claiming, insurance companies will try to avoid paying out.
Rather than being a guide purely for the insured, the idea is that IFAs will also benefit from its simple flow charts and clear explanations, allowing them to take as active a role as they would wish in the processing of claims.
The guide covers claims for death, critical illness, disability and long term care.
The intention is to show what happens when a claim is made, the paperwork needed to support it and where to find the necessary documents to support a claim.
Also, the guide deals with client confidentiality, discusses the most common reasons for claims being turned down and when the policyholder can expect to be paid, including when interest is paid. It also offers advice on getting insurance post-claim.
Lynda Cox, life marketing manager at Skandia, said: "We want to pay claims, and we are very open and clear about reasons when we do not. This guide will give everyone clear and precise information on what a company needs to pay a claim, as well as what can prevent paying a claim."
For a free copy of the Claims Guide, IFAs should ring the Protection Marketing team on 023 8072 9785, or fax on 023 8072 9468.
