UNUM is revamping its group critical illness contracts and is cutting premiums by an average
of 7%.
The group is adding multiple sclerosis to its list of conditions on its Base Cover product. The policy, UNUM's budget critical illness offering, also pays out a lump sum on six other critical illness conditions - heart attack, cancer, stroke, kidney failure, coronary artery bypass surgery and major organ transplant.
UNUM is also adding 11 new conditions on its Extra Cover version of the policy, including coma, benign brain tumour, aorta graft surgery and open heart surgery.
The insurer is also offering an extra 15% in benefits in the event of claims on schemes it offers quotes on during the next two months.
"We have been able to reduce rates on CI and still achieve our profit targets," said Andrew Smith, PR manager at UNUM.
"As we have not had as many claims as expected we have adjusted our rates to be in line with this."
Nick Lomas, marketing manager at UNUM, said: "While traditionally UNUM has been competitive in this market, we now believe this to be the best available, providing market leading contract conditions and value for money."
