The Department of Health (DoH) and the British Medical Association (BMA) have reached an agreement on the new consultants' contract. It is hoped the deal will be put to a ballot later in the summer. The discussions maintained the agreement that consultants are expected to offer the first portion of their spare time to the NHS before private practice. Other issues included extra recognition for evening and weekend work.
