A new group income protection (IP) product, offering enhanced support for sick employees, has been launched by BUPA.
The provider aims to help companies reduce the cost of sickness absence by integrating the scheme with its occupational health services. The main driver of the new scheme is the promise of prompt advice from occup- ational health professionals should employees fall ill.
The scheme allows companies to contact BUPA ' after an employee becomes sick and before the end of any deferred period ' and let the professionals liase with staff directly to discuss treatment and other support.
With an emphasis on early intervention to help reduce absence, the scheme also offers a 24-hour health line, giving policyholders access to a team of qualified nurses.
Martin Noone, head of sales and business development at BUPA Membership, said: 'By adding occupational health services, comp- anies can offer added benefits to employees in a climate when it is difficult to retain good staff.'
