The Association of British Insurers and the British Medical Association have jointly agreed new guidance to improve communication of medical information to insurers. A standard industry form and covering letter have been published along with agreed wording of the informed consent declaration that patients must fill in to allow information to be exchanged. The new guidance applies to life assurance, critical illness, income protection and long term care insurance.
