BUPA has introduced a new condition-led policy into its Heartbeat portfolio of products. The Heartbeat Heart & Cancer scheme focuses on rapid diagnosis and treatment for heart disease and cancer.
Policyholders are covered for diagnostics until the point where the patient demonstrates no further signs of heart disease or cancer.
For those diagnosed with the conditions, the usual private medical insurance (PMI) benefits such as inpatient cover apply and the policy then becomes a full refund product for those undergoing treatment.
For an extra payment of £16.28 a month, an optional annual health check is available to policyholders.
Joanna Caparn, head of personal sales at BUPA, said: 'The biggest health concerns are heart-related diseases and cancer. We felt creating a condition-led policy that dealt specifically with these problems would benefit everybody.'
She added: 'The price point is good for those who have not considered full private medical insurance, but it is extremely important people are aware it is a condition-led policy, rather than a fully comprehensive private medical insurance plan.'
Monthly premiums for each policyholder are calculated on an individual basis. Prices are based on a number of factors including a risk assessment, history of illness, age and lifestyle.
