A co-ordinated industry pub- licity campaign is the only way to boost private medical insurance (PMI) sales, accord- ing to chief executive of Medical Insurance Services, Stephen Walker.
Walker believes the private sector should take advantage of the current public interest in healthcare funding and work harder to communicate the benefits of PMI.
'Every day there is a story about the NHS in the news. The PMI market should be tagging onto this publicity and shouting that there is an alternative ' that PMI is a necessity rather than a luxury,' said Walker.
Interest in a market-wide publicity campaign has already been shown by a number of insurers. 'Some insurers have made noises that they could be interested in getting involved. One obvious solution seems to be a co-ordinated campaign, perhaps using the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries as a catalyst,' he said.
