A new rehabilitation service focusing on mental health and psychological problems has been launched, with the aim of working with income protection (IP) providers.
Moving Minds claims to have developed procedures that can speed up rehabilitation and help insurers manage claims in a cost-effective way.
The service specialises in cognitive behaviour therapy and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing to help treat work-related stress, anxiety and depression, post-traumatic stress and intractable physical illness.
The organisation is hoping to partner several UK insurers to help reduce the mounting cost of IP claims. Wilson Carswell, medical director at Moving Minds, said there was a need for insurers to bridge the gap left by the NHS with regards to access to psychological rehabilitation services.
'The NHS is unable and unwilling to recognise the need for psychological treatment ' the private sector has no competition from NHS services. The most common treatment available from the State is counselling, which in our view, is like calling in the St John's Ambulance service to perform cardiac surgery,' he said.
