International private medical insurer Expacare has added benefits to its plans including a lump sum payment for AIDS diagnosis and a £10,000 benefit to treat alcohol and other drug addiction.
The compassionate payment for policyholders with AIDS and treatment for drug addiction will both be available on its Specialcare policy.
Other enhancements include an increased overall benefit of £1.5m on Executivecare and £5m for Specialcare policyholders. Organ transplant benefit has been increased to £150,000 on Executivecare and £200,000 on Specialcare plans. While complementary medicine benefit has been raised to £750 for Executivecare and £1,000 for Specialcare. Hospital cash benefits have also been increased across all plans.
All new benefits will take effect from 1 July 2004. Julie Macey, clients services director at Expacare, said the improvements demonstrate an empathy for the issues faced by expatriates. "We hope that they will never need any treatment for alcohol or other drug addiction, but if the worst happens then it is good to know that your international health insurance provider is there for you," she said.
