Bupa has joined the increasing number of insurers to offer free gym membership to its policyholders after it announced that it had teamed up with Fitness First.

The provider will offer free annual membership to anyone buying Bupa health insurance, with existing policyholders getting reduced rates.

In addition, Bupa has launched a health check tracker, which tests 16 different physiological and physical signs and monitors them over time.

"We know that health is top of the list of the nation's concerns, and this system, together with the free and discounted rates, is designed to help tackle the growing health and obesity crisis," said Dr Henriette Coetzer, assistant medical director at Bupa.
