In March 1998, a sub-group of the IFA Association, the Critical Illness (CI) Working Party, addressed the further standardisation of CI definitions. Headed by Nick Kirwan, then product development manager at SM Pegasus, the aim was to look at which CI conditions could adopt standard definitions. Other news revealed hospital waiting lists were still growing fast despite a Government cash injection of £300m.
