Zurich's latest claims figures show its Allied Dunbar branded critical illness plans have paid out over £100m over the last three years. The provider said the figures represent a massive acceleration, with previous pay-outs taking 11 years to reach the same amount. It put the claims explosion down to advances in medical science. Peter Kelly, Zurich's protection marketing director, said: "The fact that illnesses are being detected earlier than ever before is a good thing. It should provide a wake-up call to people who have made no provision for the unexpected."
