Aegon Scottish Equitable paid out on 91% of critical illness (CI) claims in 2008. The 9% decline of CI claims is half the number of claims declined in 2007. 41% of those declined claims were due to non-disclosure, and 59% were due to the definition of the critical illness not being met. Cancer continued to be the most common reason to pay out and the average age of a critical illness claimant was 44-years-old.
