Scottish Provident has launched a large case underwriting team to deal with applications for all of its protection products with a sum assured of £500,000 or more, writes Angela Faherty.
The dedicated team of eight will work within a wider team of underwriters, but will focus solely on tasks related to larger sums assured such as add-itional medical and financial underwriting.
Adopting a more proactive approach, the team will maintain regular contact with advisers to ensure they are up to date on the development of all applications. The team will also ensure that any additional information needed to help with the application process is speedily chased and collected.
While the team will begin with eight staff, numbers will be driven by volume of business in the long term.
Nick Kirwan, head of pro-tection, product development at Scottish Provident, said: 'The team has been established on the principle that those applications for £500,000 sum assured or more have greater and more complex medical and financial underwriting require-ments.
'By having a dedicated team which is proactively involved with advisers, we can help the intermediary to explain to clients why further documentation may be needed and where their submission is in the application process,' he said.
