Intermediaries believe insurers should be responsible for raising the awareness of protection and growing the industry.
An interactive poll at last month's COVER Protection Forum found a total of 43% of audience members thought the onus was on product providers to raise the profile of the sector.
In addition, another 28% thought the Association of British Insurers was the best organisation to shoulder the responsibility of increasing consumer awareness.
Debating the future of COVER's Promoting Protection campaign, the majority of delegates thought it should try to devise a brief for simple generic protection products. Many also thought the campaign should attempt to raise money from within the industry to fund a generic advertising campaign.
Slightly more than half (55%) thought the Government should do its bit and step in to highlight the need for protection to the general public.
