Almost all protection advisers use technology in their business, according to a new survey conducted by Swiss Life. Around 90% of IFAs do product research and obtain quotes online, compared to 50% who use CD-ROMs.
More clients are also communicating with IFAs via email ' 35% of respondents say this 'often' happens compared to 26% in last year's survey.
For 58% of respondents, portals are the first choice for obtaining single company quotes, with provider websites and the telephone joint second. But CD-ROMs come a long way down the order of preference.
Richard Davies, e-business and media manager at Swiss Life, said: 'We are keen to develop state-of-the-art applications, but want to be pragmatic, so we research the market to understand how advisers use technology. Online business has increased significantly, with clients finding IFAs through online search tools, such as 'Find an IFA.' The CD-ROM is losing ground as people move to online services and use broadband connections.'
One-third of IFAs said the process they most want to carry out online was new business submission. This was followed by tracking new business at 22%.
