The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII)'s petition to scrap Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) on health insurance has been postponed due to the forthcoming 'snap' General Election.
The election has meant that parliament will be dissolved on 3 May 2017 and all parliamentary business - including petitions - must stop on that date until after the election. Prime minister Theresa May called for the snap election to take place on June 8th 2017, claiming that divisions at Westminster risked Brexit negotiations. AMII will need to begin the campaign, including collecting existing and new signatures from scratch, at a later date.
