CIGNA Healthcare is rolling out a range of new employee health management programmes to help staff manage chronic conditions.
The programmes aim to help employees who suffer from diabetes, asthma or cardiac conditions by offering support and advice. It is hoped that employers will also benefit from the schemes by gaining a better understanding of employee health and wellbeing, while reducing the costs related to absence, disability and private medical insurance.
Ann Dougan, marketing manager at CIGNA Healthcare, said the decision to help employers and their staff monitor these conditions in particular was because of the high incidence and increasing trends associated with them.
"These conditions are important in terms of increasing trends and we have seen in the US that managing chronic conditions does work. Private medical insurance does not cover chronic conditions and this gap needs to be addressed," she said.
