Civil partnerships
The Association of British Insurers' (ABI) has announced its stance against a Government discrimination Green Paper, dubbed the Discrimination Law Review and said it will ensure that the industry should not distinguish between those people in civil partnerships and those people in marriage.
The ABI believes that exemptions on grounds of sexual orientation should not be needed anymore and that the industry as whole should move against this.
This news came in the wake of the ABI taking a firmer stance on the rights of homosexuals. Last year, it produced a new consumer guide for gay men on HIV and life insurance in a bid to ensure gay men are treated fairly when applying for insurance. The ABI said that many gay men applying for life insurance felt they had been treated unfairly, mainly due to the practice of asking about sexuality commonly known as "the gay question" on application forms.
