The 1999 annual review of income protection insurance, has been published by Kluwer, writes Catherine Williams.
The guide, compiled by ERC Frankona Re, provides a comprehensive overview of the providers and products in the market and gives detailed information on rates, medical and occupational underwriting limits, and individual and group conditions. The review also provides individual company contract details, plus information on deferred periods, escalation rates, definitions of disability and waiver, benefit calculations, medical underwriting limits and exclusions.
The guide examines the levels of ill health benefits available from the State, namely statutory
sick pay and incapacity benefit, and their potential impact on
net income and, therefore, cover levels.
The review has been in existence for several years, although this is the first year it has been compiled by ERC Frankona.
Paul Casey, marketing analyst at ERC Frankona, said: 'Although there are other sources of information for income protection, the Kluwer guide is market leading and presents information in a way others do not, such as comparisons of what is standard and non-standard between plans.
'Income protection is an important market for ERC Frankona so we decided it would be good to become involved.'
Despite disappointing sales in the past year, ERC Frankona remains upbeat about the future of the income protection market.
In the introduction to the
guide, ERC Frankona said: 'The drive towards welfare reform by the Government and the reducing value of what are already limited State benefits, leaves a huge need to be met and, therefore, a great opportunity for insures and intermediaries.'
The review costs £179 which includes monthly updates, and is available from customer services at Kluwer Publishing on: 0181 547 3333.
