CIGNA International Expatriate Benefits has extended its organ transplant cover to include the harvesting of donor organs. The change means CIGNA members will be covered for the entire organ transfer process, including harvesting donor organs, the donor's medical costs, trans- plantation and the immuno-suppressive medication often crucial for successful transplantation. The enhanced plan is available to CIGNA customers throughout Europe.
Sheldon Kenton, head of international sales and client management ' Europe ' at CIGNA, said the development follows the company's review of its benefits scheme: 'The move to offer comprehensive transplantation cover reflects the increasing number of choices available to patients. While certain conditions might not be life-threatening, treatment is available which could improve an expatriate's quality of life.'
The provider has enhanced other elements of its international healthcare cover. Benefits include covering the cost of hormone replacement treatment and raising the level of refund for a private ambulance from £500 to a full refund.
