Sickness absence is a perennial problem for businesses of all sizes and, while the cost of absence due to illness or injury is usually obvious (accounting on average for 6.3 lost working days per employee per year, according to the latest CIPD survey [1]), employers shouldn't underestimate the additional impact that employees taking time to make and go to doctors' appointments can have on their business.  We know from our own research that over a quarter of bosses (29 per cent) say they are frustrated by the working time lost when employees take time off for GP or hospital appointments. ...
