Each group is made up of between eight and ten insurance practitioners from the CII’s broking, claims and underwriting faculties, all of whom have been nominated by senior management for significant achievement within their profession.
As part of the year-long initiative, the New Generation Groups will expand their professional development and extend their market knowledge by taking part in research-led projects and attending seminars on topics such as regulation, political lobbying and the role of the media.
Ant Gould, director of faculties at the CII, said: “The idea of the New Generation Groups is to support practitioners who have demonstrated considerable aptitude in their field by providing them with the tools to explore the issues that matter to them, customers and the market and helping them develop their own leadership skill sets.
“As the business leaders of the future, we need young professionals to champion insurance so that the industry can continue to attract and retain talent. For the individual, being nominated as a group member represents a great opportunity to raise their profile and the chance to drive change from within their sector.
“The groups will be supported by the relevant faculty boards, although topics are of their own choosing and led by their interests. With some of the brightest talent in the insurance industry being brought together, the projects promise to be very interesting and I look forward to seeing what emerges.”
A London Market faculty New Generation Group was launched earlier this year.

Positive
Thanks for both of your comments - even though they are rather negative to say the least. And whilst it is clear the main motitivation for your observations are the changes being brought upon your sector by the burden of regulation, I would just like to say that having the opportunity to support and help to develop even only a few of those working in the insurance industry is something I am proud to be associated with. There are still many attractive and interesting careers to be had within the profession and it is only by developing proper career paths that new blood will be attracted to, and stay with, the industry.

Think Again
I could not agree more with OTR. The CII is turning its attention to young blood because it knows an awful lot of people who have been in this line of business for more than 5 minutes are either wishing they had chosen a different career or looking for a way out. Why choose to be kicked and spat upon by a ruthless regulator? Find a career where you will be treated with dignity and respect and not as if you are something nasty on the regulators shoe.

If they've got any sense they will change career paths!
