Protection adviser Drewberry Insurance has launched a new risk tool for consumers to help them understand how exposed they and their families are to financial troubles caused by losing an income through ill health.
The tool assesses people's ability to survive if they are too ill to earn a salary through a series of five key questions. The results then give them a risk rating and advice on what to do next.
The tool can be accessed here: http://www.drewberryinsurance.co.uk/income-protection-insurance#income-riskometer
Before providing a risk rating, the tool asks questions on the consumer's sick pay, level of savings, capacity to survive financially on state benefits, employee benefits (if applicable) and potential family support - core questions someone should consider when working out their potential exposure.
It is hoped that the tool will help consumers realise their financial vulnerability and encourage more people to consider Income Protection Insurance.
Tom Conner, director at Drewberry Insurance, said: "We find that people who visit our website want more than just a quote or number to call. They want to be able to educate themselves and make an informed decision and our Riskometer is one of several online tools we have designed for that purpose.
"Education is at the heart of what we do at Drewberry. We can tell from feedback and web metrics that these online tools are valued by visitors to our website."
