With research showing better survival rates for patients with direct access to cancer specialists, Bupa UK Insurance chief exec explores why early detection is so crucial

This week Imperial College London released findings of a global study suggesting people with cancer have significantly better health outcomes in countries where they can access specialists directly, rather than having to seeing a GP before they undergo tests or get specialist assessments. Direct access saves lives. The research examined 21 separate studies of healthcare systems in the US and Europe, with one study finding a difference of 11% in one-year survival.
