Bright Grey: Two-thirds of customers 'value' second medical opinion

clock

Research from Bright Grey has found that almost two thirds (63%) of people would take a second medical opinion if it was offered when receiving a diagnosis from a medical professional.

The insurer, part of Royal London, also found that a quarter (25%) of UK adults have wanted a second medical opinion at some point. However, two-thirds (66%) have never been offered one.

Almost half (49%) of those surveyed by YouGov (2,093 UK adults) believe a second medical opinion should always be offered when someone receives a diagnosis from a medical professional.

When asked about location and timing, the majority (85%) said they would prefer it to be face-to-face.

Almost half (49%) of those surveyed said would like it to be provided by a UK based professional.

The findings follow Bright Grey's recent announcement  that its Helping Hand service has been extended to include a second medical opinion.

Debbie Kennedy, head of protection proposition for Royal London Group's Intermediary Division, said:"This research not only highlights the value customers place on receiving a second medical opinion; it also reiterates how important it is for customers to have a personal conversation with a medical professional."
