Critical illness definitions at risk from genetic testing

Current critical illness definitions are at risk as genetic testing becomes more prevalent, Gen Re's Dr. Ian Cox has warned.

Speaking at Gen Re's ReGenerate conference in London, Cox who is consultant chief medical officer at Gen Re said: "As we've seen in politics, people want to feel as if they are more in control of their own future, it may be misguided, but they want to know more about themselves, that's part of what is driving this. "Technology is advancing and critical illness definitions are not advancing."  Cox said he was "not so sure" that people would change behaviours to mitigate known genetic risks.
