LV= to test product engagement on own workforce

LV= is testing the water over new product designs on a work site basis with its own workers.

Iain Clark, managing director of protection at LV=, said: "We are looking at developing some products that we will engage on a work site basis with our own workers, to see if they would actually be open to it."

LV=, with over 6000 employees, will begin with just one work site product within the next couple of weeks.

"Either on a pension, an income or a life basis, the longer sometimes you are with a company the better the benefits, but when you come in they may be basic," said Clark.

"So what we are trying to say is; if you want to enhance those with these few simple ideas about adding on, would you be interested? And then on that basis, we can then test and learn whether these products work."

If the proposition is a success LV= would consider taking the plan to similar sised corporations as a working example. The provider is initially looking at life, critical illness and income protection.

Clark added: "We think it is a big market but we do these tests because building any kind of product for a market is very expensive. We would rather test on our own people rather than think that we know the answer and find it does not work."
