For some, 2016 was a year to forget, and among the things that marked it out was the high number of celebrity deaths, writes Steve Berry.

 From David Bowie to George Michael and Carrie Fisher, the year was punctuated by unexpected and high profile obituaries of the old and the not so old. It's not just celebrities, of course. More than 160,000 die each year from cancer alone;[1] 73,000 from heart disease.[2]  Many more - up to 1 million workers a year - suddenly find themselves unable to work due to serious illness or injury.
